Kulttuurikasarmi

2023

Every capital has a route through which one can become part of the urban life and feel its pulse. In Helsinki it’s Mannerheimintie and the Kamppi district, where the new Kulttuurikasarmi lies.

Kulttuurikasarmi was an extensive project that started in the early stages of the pandemic, back in 2020, and was finalized in November 2023. The objective was to create a new cultural centre for the Finnish capital that would amalgamate art, cinema, cuisine, music and more, in an architecturally significant and historical environment.

The area has a fascinating and considerable history, dating back to the 18th century. Among other things, it’s been utilised as a camping place for the military, a training ground for the bourgeois guard, the Turku barracks and a local and long-distance bus station.

Today, while respecting and embracing the context and its history, Kulttuurikasarmi has brought the entire area back to life in an unprecedented way. Restaurants, distilleries, bars, cafés, terraces, pavilions, cinemas, event spaces, stages for open-air concerts… all located in one place - the heart of Helsinki.
